How can you help at home?

How you can help at home:

  • Read with your child daily, talk about the story – what did they like/dislike about the story/character?
  • Practice the letter sounds and play games to reinforce these.
  • Practice writing their names, ensuring correct letter formation
  • Practice writing in a variety of ways; chalk, paint, water and brush, shaving foam…..
  • Practice accurate counting and recognising numbers out and about (up to 20).
  • Make sure your child brings their book bag to school every day.
  • Support with home learning each week
  • Home learning will be given to children on Wednesday and needs to be returned to school by the following Wednesday - otherwise it may not be marked. Children who complete all of their home learning will get a certificate at the end of term.
  • Provide a full named PE kit to include: Black shorts, PE t-shirt and plimsolls or trainers – This is really important as some children are not properly equipped for physical activity.
  • All children in foundation stage will take part in Plymouth Argyle sessions and it is best if they are in their own PE kit.
  • Please make sure all clothing is named – otherwise it might get mixed up with other children’s clothes.
  • Encourage children to share news and information with their teacher.
  • Visit St Stephens school website for help and to support your child’s learning at home. You can use our website to find out more about what your child is doing at school.
  • Keep communicating with us.
