St Stephens Community Primary School Curriculum Statement
What is the curriculum like at our School?
St Stephens community Primary school, our curriculum intent is to tailor education to individual need, interest and aptitude so as to fulfil every child's potential. Every pupil will have access to a rich, broad, balanced and, above all, stimulating curriculum.
We have created a thematic spiral creative curriculum based on the national curriculum and including the enrichment of purposeful visits and activities, designed to enhance vocabulary, build curiosity and engage children with delight and enthusiasm to learn. We seek to help our children develop lively, creative, enquiring minds and provide them with the skills and knowledge which will prepare them for successful, healthy lives in the ever changing world in which they live.
We believe this leads to high standards in attainment and progress across the school and prepares our pupils to reflect the values of society and supports the development of the kind of society we want to live in. Our curriculum is underpinned by British values, to develop every pupil and provide them with enriching opportunities and experiences to allow them to be happy, successful, lifelong learners in modern Britain.
We believe in the importance of teaching children how to develop successful character traits through values and characteristics.We use BLP: Resourcefulness, Resilience, Reflectiveness and Reciprocity. As a result, behaviour for learning (perseverance, concentration, being confident to take a risk without fear of failure, etc.) is a strong focus so that children are well equipped to deal with the challenges of life in the 21st century. We endeavour to enable children to become lifelong learners and face the ever changing global world.
Sex and relationship education is taught in line with the Relationships and Sex education policy agreed by governors and our community.
Religious Education follows the locally agreed syllabus for Cornish schools.
An extensive range of extra-curricular activities are offered. These include football, netball, choir, ICT, forest school, coding, hockey, yoga, steel drums and French. The school is proud of its provision in this area.
